Privacy Policy

Pearl ("the app," "we," "us") is built around private conversations, so we keep this simple and honest. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what control you have.

What we collect

• Account. You sign in with Apple. We receive a unique identifier and, if you share it, your email address (Apple lets you hide it behind a relay). We never see your Apple password.
• Profile. The name and answers you give during setup (like what you want help with and your birth year) personalize your conversations.
• Conversations. Your messages are stored on your device and backed up to your account so your history survives reinstalls. Conversations are private to your account — protected by row-level security, only you can read them.
• Photos. Photos you choose to share are sent for processing so Pearl can respond to them. We use Apple's photo picker, which means the app never gets access to your photo library — only the specific images you pick.
• Usage analytics. We collect anonymous usage events (like "message sent" or "app opened") tied to a random install ID, to understand what's working and what isn't. This is not tied to your name or email.

Sharing with a third-party AI service (Google Gemini)

Pearl is an AI app. Her replies are generated by a third-party AI service: Google's Gemini API, operated by Google LLC.

• What we send. When you send a message, we transmit the text of your recent conversation and any photos you choose to share to Google's Gemini API so it can generate Pearl's reply.
• Who we send it to. Google LLC, as our AI processing provider, under Google's Gemini API terms and Google's Privacy Policy.
• How it's used. Solely to generate the reply you see in the app. We do not use your conversations to train AI models, and the data is not used by Google to train its models under the paid API terms we use.
• Your permission. Before you send your first message, the app discloses this and asks you to agree. You can stop at any time by not sending messages, and you can delete your data in Settings.

Google is contractually required to handle this data with protections equivalent to those described in this policy.

What we never do

• We never sell your personal data.
• We never read your conversations except where required by law.
• We never access your photo library, contacts, or location.

Advertising

Pearl is free, supported by sponsored content that may appear in the app. Ads do not get access to your conversations.

Deleting your data

In the app: Profile → Settings → Delete Account permanently deletes your account, all conversations on our servers, and all data on your device. This is immediate and irreversible. You can also clear chat history without deleting your account.

Data security

Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and stored with per-user access control. Backend services are provided by Supabase (database and authentication).

Age

Pearl is not directed at children under 13, and you must meet the minimum age required by the App Store rating to use it.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date above. Material changes will be communicated in the app.
